Language-dependent user rights

FirstSpirit allows you to assign language-dependent editing rights to user groups. This feature provides precise control over which editorial languages a group is authorized to edit within the ContentCreator. It is especially useful in multilingual projects where different editorial teams manage separate language versions.

For example, language-dependent user rights can restrict a German-speaking editorial team to edit only German content, while English content remains accessible exclusively to another team. By implementing language-dependent user rights, you establish a clear responsibility structure and minimize the risk of unintentional modifications to content in languages not assigned to the group.

Important Language-dependent user rights can be configured by project admins for individual groups through the project properties of the respective project.
Important Language-dependent user rights can currently only be configured for forms.

Language-dependent user rights for form contents

Language-dependent user rights affect the editing of form contents in ContentCreator. An editor can only edit those form contents for which the corresponding rights have been configured.

If an editor is not allowed to edit content in a certain language, that language will be marked as "read-only" in the language selection, and the corresponding language-dependent input components in the form will also be displayed as "read-only." Languages that cannot be edited by the user are displayed under "Additional Languages" in the language selection, provided the user has not made an explicit setting for visible languages.

A notice informs the editor about the restricted access rights. This notice is displayed regardless of whether there are actually "read-only" fields in the current form, as restrictions may still apply in other languages or for language-independent content. For example, an editor with editing rights for German-language content and language-independent content can also edit language-independent content in an English form.

Input Components with inner components

Some input components contain so-called inner input components. Special rules apply in this case:

  • FS_CATALOG: An editor can only create new paragraphs if they have right to edit the language of the CATALOG. If the CATALOG is language-independent, the editor requires rights to edit language-independent content ("$"). For the input components within the CATALOG, the editor’s rights for the currently active editing language then apply.
  • CMS_INPUT_DOM: An editor can create links within a DOM element, provided they are allowed to edit the language of the parent DOM element. This also applies if the input components of the links themselves are always language-independent.
